You just had to be there...

For the most part, aside from a few uncontrollable eye rolling moments when I read some Fundy porn posts on Facebook, I'm doing pretty well leaving that world behind.  Occasionally though, I will see or hear something that takes me back. For example ,just tonight I read a post on a forum for moms from an anonymous woman who is literally trapped in fundamentalism. Her husband is the stereotypical controlling and abusive Fundy husband and has threatened to take her kids away if she leaves. I'm so very thankful that my husband never bought into the whole submissive wife bullshit but at the same time, I can relate on some level to her feelings of being trapped. For a while, we weren't on the same page with regards to the church and I wanted to leave but he didn't. It caused a lot of tension between us. I was absolutely miserable whenever I forced myself to go to church with him and our kids and felt like I was suffocating. I'm grateful every day that we finally got out of that horrible environment and I hope this lady I read about tonight, can also get out of that mess and be happy. Fundy world is no place for a woman and no one should have to live like that. I read some of the comments to this woman and it's clear that they are people who have never set foot inside a fundamental church and don't have a clue how hard it is to "just leave". I responded to her and let her know that I was in fundamentalism for 13 years so I understand her dilemma at least some of it. She's in a much worse situation though because she's in an abusive relationship with her husband. I really hope she's able to leave but unfortunately, she's not going to find any support in the church.  It's both sad and angering how many people are in the same boat as this woman and being told by "Christian " friends and spiritual leaders that it's God's plan for them to stay with their husband, no matter what, even if it means they could be killed. Why this shit is allowed to go on is beyond me.
